Site Specific Geotechnical Engineering
RCI provided Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Landscaping and Irrigation design, and Construction Management services during construction, for the Carson City Animal Shelter project as a sub-consultant to BDA Architecture. RCI provided a site specific geotechnical engineering investigation for the project. The investigation included review of existing geologic literature and plans in the vicinity as well as review of our own files regarding previous investigations on or adjacent to the Carson City Corporate yard.
Bulk Sampling & Testing Provided
The field investigation included two exploratory borings and eight test pits completed in the area of the proposed building, driveway and paved parking areas using a truck-mounted drill rig and back-hoe. Representative samples were recovered by bulk sampling and the use of split spoon samplers utilizing standard penetration tests.
Representative soil samples were tested in the RCI Carson City material testing laboratory. Soils were tested for general engineering properties including soil gradation, Atterberg limits, moisture contents, resistance value (R-value), sulfate and chloride contents and pH.
Civil Site Planning
Preparation of a geotechnical report with recommendations for foundation design, pavement section design, flatwork, site grading including over excavation of uncontrolled fill materials, drainage and erosion control. The geotechnical report was utilized in the development of the civil site, grading, drainage and utilities plans. Geotechnical considerations were incorporated in the preparation of 30, 50 and 99, and 100% plans and technical specifications for civil site work including paving, hardscape, grading, drainage and utilities.
