What is a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)?
A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is a locally developed strategy to reduce the risk of wildfires and improve community preparedness. It’s more than just a document—it’s a tool that empowers communities to identify priorities, strengthen emergency response, and protect what matters most.
Lander County is updating its 2005 CWPP to reflect current wildfire conditions, better data, and the evolving needs of its residents. This update will reassess ten local communities originally included in the 2005 plan.
To lead this important effort, Lander County has partnered with Resource Concepts Inc. (RCI), a firm with deep experience in wildfire planning and land stewardship.
Plan Info
Why This Plan Matters
The updated CWPP is a collaborative, non-regulatory plan designed to:
- Collect input and recommendations from local residents
- Identify and assess wildfire hazards and risks
- Describe each community’s unique characteristics and vulnerabilities
- Recommend practical, science-based strategies to reduce risks
- Prioritize mitigation projects that protect homes, landscapes, and infrastructure
This plan will help guide funding decisions, project implementation, and emergency preparedness efforts across Lander County for years to come.

Get Involved: Your Voice Matters
The CWPP is built on local insight and involvement. Whether you’re a resident, property owner, firefighter, rancher, or community leader, your perspective is vital to creating a meaningful and effective plan.
Opportunities to participate—including public meetings, surveys, and review periods—will be shared soon. We invite you to stay engaged, ask questions, and help shape a wildfire-resilient future for your community.
