RCI has been out in the community educating young minds at local science education events using a 3-D watershed model and groundwater model to teach about source water protection. We attended the Eagle Valley Middle School celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) night for students and parents, Trout Release events for the River Wranglers at the Carson River Park, and the Science Expo at the Tahoe Environmental Research Center in Incline Village. By teaching where our tap water comes from, what a watershed is, the difference between storm system and sewer system, point and non-point pollution sources, and the hydrologic cycle, we are helping future generations protect water quality.
