Protecting The Carson River Watershed
Carson River Management Forum – Feb 22nd and 23rd, 2017.
The Carson River Watershed is a key resource that connects the communities from Churchill County, Douglas County and Carson City. Multiple organizations must cooperate and work together to conserve and protect our watershed. The management forum provided an opportunity to learn, educate, and collaborate management strategies across several different industries and disciplines covering topics such as water quality, stormwater, flooding, invasive species, riparian restoration, recreation and outreach programs. With a wide range of topics and presenters, this forum provided educational possibilities to learn about current issues and projects from professionals throughout our community.
This 2 day workshop included RCI’s very own Lynn Zonge, who presented on the protection of drinking water sources in the Carson River Watershed, and Kristin Roaldson, who presented on the Stormwater Circuit Rider Program. Other speakers included professionals from the National Weather Service, United States Geological Survey (USGS), Neveda Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP), University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Ace Hereford Ranch, Carson Water Subconservancy District (CWSD), Storey County, Douglas County, Truckee-Carson Irrigation District, Nevada Division of Agriculture (NDA), River Wrangles, Alpine Watershed Group, HDR Inc, Dayton Valley Conservation District, American Rivers, and Carson City Parks and Recreation – Open Space.
