About Our Location:

RCI is located in historic Carson City, Nevada, the Capital of Nevada. Carson City was founded in 1858 by pioneer Abraham Curry. The city takes its name from the Carson River which early explorer John Fremont named for his scout, frontiersman "Kit" Carson. Following the organization of the Nevada territory in 1861, territorial capital and the county seat. In 1864, President Abraham Lincoln granted statehood to Nevada and Carson City was selected as the state capital. Carson City not only became a seat of local, territorial, and state government, but also grew into a thriving commercial and industrial center after the discovery of the Comstock Lode of gold and silver in nearby Virginia City. Nevada's first railroad, the Virginia & Truckee, was established to transport ore from the mines to Carson City and on to Reno.

Location & Climate

Carson City encompasses 146 square miles in northwestern Nevada at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Located at the intersection of U.S. 395, (linking cities from Canada to Mexico) and U.S. 50, a direct route from West to East, Carson City is 14 miles east of Lake Tahoe, 30 miles south of Reno and 128 miles east of Sacramento.

Carson City enjoys a pleasant semi-desert climate. Summers tend to be warm and dry with cool evenings. Winters are cold and dry with an average snowfall of 31.6 inches. The annual average rainfall is 11.8 inches and the average growing season is 123 days. Average annual high temperature is 89 degrees and the average annual low is 19. Yearly days of sunshine average 266.
