2017 N-4 Board Wild Horse Analysis

The N-4 State Grazing Board and RCI are pleased to provide the attached analysis that highlights current wild horse population estimates in the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District and compares these projections against the Appropriate Management Levels (AMLs) adopted by the agency land use plan. The analysis further projects the economic loss that would result to rural economies if the horse use in excess of AML was removed from the current permitted livestock grazing.

The analysis concluded that the level of wild horse impacts documented in this report is likely occurring throughout the public lands located in Nevada and across the West in areas inhabited by wild horses.
